The western portion of Lenawee County is part of the the Irish Hills, a beautiful scenic area of mid-Michigan with rolling hills, chains of kettle lakes that was a popular stagecoach resort area in the 1920s. U.S. 12, aka the Chicago Road, also runs through northwestern Lenawee County. U.S. 12, based on the Old Sauk Trail, is now more famous for it's use in the 1930s by bootleggers moving alcohol and money between Detroit (Canada) and Chicago.
